Alexander Seifalian, Professor of Nanotechnology and Regenerative Medicine worked at the Royal Free Hospital and University College London for over 26 years, during this time he spent a period of time at Harvard Medical School looking at caused of cardiovascular diseases and a year at Johns Hopkins Medical School looking at treatment of liver. He published more than 647 peer-reviewed research papers, and registered 14 UK and International patents. He is currently CEO of NanoRegMed Ltd, working on the commercialisation of his research. During his career Prof Seifalian has led and managed many large projects with successful outcomes in terms of commercialisation and translation to patients. In 2007 he was awarded the top prize in the field for the development of nanomaterials and technologies for cardiovascular implants by Medical Future Innovation, and in 2009 he received a Business Innovation Award from UK Trade & Investment (UKTI). He was the European Life Science Awards’ Winner of Most Innovative New Product 2012 for the “synthetic trachea”. Prof Seifalian won the Nanosmat Prize in 2013 and in 2016 he received the Distinguish Research Award in recognition of his outstanding work in regenerative medicine from Heals Healthy Life Extension Society. His achievements include development of the world first synthetic trachea, lacrimal drainage conduit, and vascular bypass graft using nanocomposite materials, bioactive molecules and stem cell technology. He has over 15,000 media report from his achievement, include BBC, ITV, WSJ, CNN, and many more. Currently he is working on development and commercialisation of human organs using graphene based nanocomposite materials and stem cells technology.

Prof. Rollett has been a Professor of Materials Science & Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) since 1995 and was the Department Head 1995-2000. Prior to CMU he worked for the University of California at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (1979-1995). He spent ten years in management with five years as a Group Leader (and then Deputy Division Director) at Los Alamos, followed by five years as Department Head at CMU (1995-2000). The main focus of his research is on the measurement and computational prediction of microstructural evolution especially in three dimensions. His interests include strength of materials, constitutive relations, microstructure, texture, anisotropy, grain growth, recrystallization, formability and stereology. He was the Chair of the International Conference on Texture (ICOTOM-15), which was held on campus at CMU June, 2008 and is a member of its International Scientific Committee. From 2001-2013 he was the Chair of the International Committee of the conference on Grain Growth and Recrystallization that is held every three years; the next meeting will be in Pittsburgh in 2016. He was a co-Chair of the 13th International Conference on Aluminum and its Applications, which was held on campus at CMU in June 2012. Artemis obtained a BSc in Chemistry (Biochemistry) from the Kapodistrian University of Athens, an MSc in Polymer Science and Technology from UMIST and a PhD in Polymer Science and Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens in 1997. She then worked in the Department of Materials at Imperial College as a Marie Curie Research Fellow until 2003, when she accepted a position as Lecturer in Nanotechnology in NIBEC, University of Ulster. In 2005, she moved to the University of Birmingham as Birmingham Fellow and since 2012, she is a Senior Lecturer in Biomaterials and Nanomaterials. Artemis’ main research interests are in the microstructural characterisation of materials for biomedical applications as well as in multifunctional materials with emphasis in orthopaedic antimicrobial materials. Dr Vimal Dhokia is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Engineering Design, specialising in the interface between innovation, design and manufacture, personalised design and advanced manufacturing technology. Vimal began his research career at the University of Bath in 2006, where he undertook his doctorate in ‘Cryogenic sculptured surface machining of elastomers.' This investigated the freezing of polymers to below their glass transition temperature allowing them to be directly machined using CNC machining methods, with the principle application of personalised insoles and shoe soles. As part of this, he was appointed to his first research post in 2007 on a UK research council funded project entitled ‘Cryogenic machining of shoe soles.’ Upon successful completion of his PhD in 2009, he was appointed to a post-doctoral position on a European project entitled ‘Dematerialisation of machine tools.' In 2011, Vimal was appointed to the position of Research Fellow and in 2013 he was appointed to the position of Lecturer in Engineering Design at the University of Bath.

Lüth studied electrical engineering at Darmstadt University of Technology until 1989. In 1993, he obtained his doctorate at the University of Karlsruhe with a thesis on robot manufacture. In 1994/1995, he was visiting professor at the Japanese robotics research institute ETL of MITI-AIST. He completed his lecturer qualification in computer science at the University of Karlsruhe in 1997. In the same year, he was appointed associate professor of clinical navigation and robotics at the Charité institute of Humboldt University Berlin. In 2001, he became a full professor in Berlin and received the newly created Chair of Mechatronic Medical Technology, an institute jointly organized by Charité and the Fraunhofer Society. In 2005, Prof. Lüth was appointed full professor at TUM at the Chair of Micro Technology and Medical Device Technology.
